LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY : LONG EXPOSURE SUN TRAILS
Sunlight brings me a sense of peace and calm. Feeling it against my skin lifts my mood instantly and reminds me that there is more to the world than any problems I may be facing. In general I find being outside and open and uplifting experience, my sense of adventure kicks in, a child like wonder gasping to explore and discover. I have been lucky in building a life whereby I can spend time outside each day, time searching, finding, creating and feeling free. This is a stark contrast to how I feel when I’m stuck inside an office, fluorescent lights flickering, green and sick. I feel trapped, I don’t think it’s how we are meant to live. Whilst certainly a reality of the modern world, it has become who we are. Rise in the morning, head to work, spend the entire day stuck in an office, head home and do it all again. It’s a lifestyle so many are unhappy with, yet there is so much pressure to do it, because it’s how things are done, it’s life.
I’m not a religious person, but i find a sense of power, of something greater within nature. As such I love spending time with nature, just being, feeling and breathing. I am currently working on a new series that documents the path of the sun as it rises and sets. Captured using long exposures over a number of hours I get to spend time with the sun and with light. The extended exposure times are almost a forced meditation, the sense elf calm reflected within the subtle tones and textures of each image.
This is a series in the making, I have been experimenting with various techniques to capture sun trails for years, a new series will be released around this technique soon, but for now, here is a sneak peek.
