第三十話 「家族会議しなきゃね(後編)」
父さんと母さんにティムと話をしたと伝えた。父さんは「良くやった！」と褒めてくれたが、母さんには「なんて危ないことをするの！」と叱られてしまった。
はぁ～母さんはまだティムを魔族と勘違いして怯えているようだ。早く誤解を解かないとね。ただ、ティム達には少し考える時間を与えてやっている。今は叱られたばかりで感情が高ぶっているだろう。冷静になって自分達がした行為を反省してもらいたい。
ティム達に俺の気持ちが伝わっていると良いんだが……。
翌朝、俺はティムに声をかけてみた。昨日の説教を引きずらせないためにも、できるだけ笑顔を心がけてある。
「ティム、おはよう。昨日はちゃんと眠れた？」
「お姉様、おはようございます。昨日は……」
「どうだった？」
「お姉様に嘘はつけません。正直眠れませんでした。ですが、一日考えてようやく昨日のお叱りの意味を理解できました」
「そう。夜更かしは良くないけど真剣に考えてくれて、お姉ちゃん、嬉しいわ」
「お姉様！」
「ニールが来てから昨日の答えを聞かせてもらうからね」
「はい」
自信満々のティムの笑顔、これは期待できそうだ。今度こそティムは反省してくれたにちがいない。今回は体罰でなく言葉だけで俺の気持ちを分かってくれたのだ。こんなに嬉しいことはない。この前のことは正直、俺もトラウマなんだよ。ティムにしつけとはいえ二度と手を挙げたくはない。
数刻後、変態ニールゼンも家にやってきた。変態ニールゼンにも一応、笑顔を見せる。あまり叱ったことを引きずられても困る。ただ、もし反省していないようだったらすぐにでも般若の顔にチェンジする予定だ。
「さて、ニールも来てくれたし、あなた達の答えを聞かせてくれる？」
「「はっ」」
二人共、元気に返事をしてくる。特に変態ニールゼンは気合十分だ。これは変態ニールゼンの答えも期待して良いのかもしれない。まず、神妙な顔でティムから話を切り出してきた。
「我は愚かでした。我は修行も終わりここを出て行こうとしていました。実際、魔力の調整も人間並みに落とすことに成功しております。もう修行の必要はなく、ここに留まる必要はないと思っておりました」
「そうね、母さんから聞いたわ。あなた、ここを出て行こうとしていたなんて……それも修行なんてまだまだこれからなんだからね」
「はい、少しくらいの魔力調整ができたぐらいで我は思い上がってました。よくよく考えればまだお姉様から直接ご指導さえ受けられなかった身であるに。お恥ずかしい限りです」
まったくそうだぞ！ 俺はまだティムに料理の基本すら教えていない。ちょっとお手伝いできるようになったからといって調子に乗ってもらっては困る。まだまだ教えることはやまほどあるんだからね。
それとさっきから「魔力調整」と言っているのは「力の調節」だよね？
食材を切ったり鍋を磨いたりする場合、力を入れるのにコツがいる。そのことを言っているのだろう。ティムがいくら中二的言語を使っても大丈夫。お姉ちゃん、ちゃんと分かっているから安心しなさい。
「うん、分かってくれたようね。まず一つは、あなたはまだまだ修行中の身、それを勘違いしてお店の手伝いをないがしろにしたことが問題。それとね、まだ一番肝心なことを言っていないよ」
「分かっております。あの人間、いえ、母上への態度ですよね？」
「そう、分かっているじゃない。あなたはあんな行為をしてどう思っているの？」

ティムはそう言って深々と頭を下げ、謝罪する。

態度は反省している。だが、セリフと合っていない。
考えがずれていないか？ ここでなんで俺が関係してくるんだ？
それに「魔族」とか「敵勢力」とか中二的言語を満載しすぎだ。
「ティム、それが昨日の私の言葉から導き出した答え？」
「は、はい、もちろん、お姉様のお言葉通り母上だけでなく周囲にも注意しておきます。二度とお姉様の覇業の妨げになるような行為は致しません」
えっ？ えっ？ どういうこと？
俺の中二的言語翻訳機を通しても意味が分からないぞ。とりあえずティムの答えは一旦保留してニールの意見も聞いてみるか。
「ニ、ニールの答えもティムと同じ？」
「はっ。私もカミーラ様と同様に感じておりました。ただ、私の考えは少し違います。人間とはいえセーラ様はティレア様、カミーラ様の仮初の親であらされる。そのような方に私は不遜な態度を取ってしまいました。主に忠誠を誓うならば主が履いた靴でさえも敬意を尽くすのが真の忠臣、仮初の親とはいえ、わが主の親であった方に私の態度はあまりにも臣下として逸しておりました。申し訳ございません」
変態ニールゼンはそう言って土下座までしてきた。額を地べたに擦りつけた完璧な土下座である。謝罪の態度としては合格だ。
ただ、これもちょっとずれているような……。
だが、この中二言語は翻訳できる。つまり、変態ニールゼンは俺に雇ってもらった恩義があるので、その恩人の両親にも恩義があると言っているのだろう。あいかわらず大げさで中二的すぎる言葉だが、自分が傲慢だったと反省した点は良しとするか。土下座までしてくれたし今回までは許してやるとしよう。
「ニール、どうやら反省してくれたようね。もう二度とこんな馬鹿な真似はしないように！」
「ははっ。肝に銘じます」
「あと、ティムはそ、その……」
「は、はい。また我は間違えたのでしょうか？」
いかん、またティムがこの世の終わりのような顔をしている。胸が締めつけられてくるよ。こんな顔はさせたくはない。
よし、冷静にティムの答えを分析しよう。とりあえずティムは中二病、完璧な答えを求めるのはまだ酷というものだ。少なくとも母さんに対し態度を改めると言っているんだ。これは及第点としても良いのではなかろうか……。
「い、いや、間違えてないよ。それじゃあ次に何をすれば良いか分かるよね？」
「はい、母上にお詫びをしてまいります」
あっ、な～んだ。ちゃんと分かっているじゃないか！
ティムの答えを聞いたときはいささか不安だったが、それが分かっているのなら問題は無い。
「ティム偉いぞ。しっかり謝るのよ」

そうして俺との会話が終わったティムと変態ニールゼンは、両親が待つ寝室へと向かう。
うん、もう大丈夫。俺は自信を持って両親の前に二人を連れてきた。

母さんはまだティムを見て怯えているようだ。父さんの背中から出したと思った顔をすぐにひっこめてしまう。これはいかん、俺は二人にすぐに謝るように目配せする。二人はこくりと頷き、母さんに向き合った。
「母上、無礼な態度を取って申し訳ありません」
「セーラ様、臣下としてあるまじき行為でした。無礼な振る舞いお許しください」
二人とも中二的言語が目につくが、一応謝ってはいる。表情は真剣そのものだしふざけている様子は無い。母さんは納得してくれるかな？
「ニールゼンさん、分かったわ。そんなに頭を下げなくてもいいです。これからもよろしくお願いします。あ、あと、テ、ティムも……」
母さんはどうやら変態ニールゼンの謝罪には納得してくれたみたいだ。だが、ティムに対してはまだぎこちない様子である。

よくよく観察するとティムの表情が無表情になっている。これじゃあ、母さんもぎくしゃくするよ。もともとのティムは笑顔が多かっただけに、この無表情さは魔族と誤解を招くには十分だ。
「ティム、まだ表情が硬いぞぉ～。ほら母さんも怯えているじゃないか！ ほらほら笑顔、笑顔」
「え、笑顔ですか。え、え～とこうですか？」
ティムは笑おうとしているが、どこか引きつった顔になる。口元の口角が不自然に上がっているし、もっとリラックスしないとね。
「ティム、もっと自然に。リラックスよ」
「は、はい。自然に……こ、こうですか？」
だめだ。自然にと言っても余計に緊張するのかティムの顔は強ばったままだ。やはり自分では顔を見れないから分かりづらいのだろう。
「あ～もう埒があかない。こうよ、こう！」
ティムの柔らかいほっぺをつまみ、そのままぎゅっと口角をあげる。うん、このくらいニンマリしないとね。
「ほぉ、ほねぇひゃま、ひたいです」
「いいからいいから。このままもう一度、母さんに謝罪の言葉を言ってみなさい」
「ふぁい。はひゃふぇ、ぶふぇいなひゃいどをふぉってもょうしけありひゃせん」
「ティレア、そんなにほほを引っ張っていたら何を言っているか分からないぞ」
「え～でも父さん、ティムの表情が硬いんだもん」

しかたがない。ティムのほっぺたを引っ張るのをやめる。するとティムの上がっていた口角が下がり元の無表情に逆戻りした。
「お、お姉様。いくらなんでも言いにくいです」

ティムがにかっと笑うがまだ引きつっている。ティムは俺の前ではそうでもないが中二病になってから無表情になることが多い。この世界の中二病も、無口クーデレキャラに憧れるのだろうか？

「ティム、難しく考えるから駄目なの。何度も言っているけど自然体が大事！」
「は、はい。これならどうですか？」
「少し良くなかったかな。続けてもう一回！」
そうやってしばらく俺がアドバイスをしたり、ティムが質問をしたりとわいわい議論を交わしていると……。
「ぷっ、はっはっは！ あなた達、なんて仲が良いのよ。そうね、こんな姉思いのティムが魔族なわけがない」
母さんが笑いながらそう答えてくれるではないか！ 母さん、やっと誤解が解けたんだね。嬉しい！
それから母さんは父さんの背中に隠れるのを止め、ティム達の前に姿を現した。
「ティム、許してね。母さん、なんか頭がおかしかったみたい」
「いえ、我が悪かったのです。母上にお許しいただき安心しました」
「これで一件落着だな。母さん、お店を再開しないと」
「そうね。それじゃあ、ティレアお店を手伝ってちょうだい」

ティムはそう言って満面の笑顔を見せてくる。ティム、こんなに良い笑顔をするのに、無表情でばかりいるともったいないよ。

小休止の後、我は敬愛するお姉様の背中を見つめる。客が入ってきてお店が忙しくなってきたのかお姉様はせわしなく動きまわっている。
「ニールゼン、我の演技は問題なかったか？」
